¡Ritmo! (CD)

¡RITMO! unites some of the most talented musicians in Scandinavian music today, 30-year-old saxophone player Benjamin Koppel with the internationally acclaimed Spanish pianist Chano Dominguez, known for his collaboration with pianist Michel Camilo, together with percussion player Jacob Andersen, who has worked with who’s who of European Music.

The three musicians have collaborated on several occasions and decided to record after a concert at Copenhagen JazzHouse. And so seven tunes are presented on ¡RITMO! – 5 written by Koppel, 2 by Dominguez – a true piece of fireworks of Spanish power, performed with curious and respectful musicality.

The major trumph-cards of the three musicians are mixed in a tornado of flamenco-inspired jazz, ballads and fiery blues. The three musicians burst out of all given frames of trio jazz with a rare, spirited energy and an excessively groovy drive and together they set new standard for how to make surprising music – without bass or drumkit.
