Gently (CD)

Already two years after the release of their successful debut CD Still Life, Anders Koppel and Henrik Dam Thomsen are ready with their new album, Gently. The partnership between Henrik Dam Thomsen and Anders Koppel has spanned over 25 years and included countless projects, including Koppel's music for the cross-over ensemble Mad Cows Sing and for Copenhagen Cello Quartet, in the opera Rebus, in film scores, concerts and recordings. The two musicians have continued this collaboration in this duo for their own, totally original instrumentation with cello and Hammond organ. The two instruments fill the space with a completely different beauty and the individual virtuosity of the two musicians is redeemed in new, inspired sounds, both in intimate conversation and in a greater symphonic breadth. And at a time when loud speech and insistent beats fill the listening room, Gently will be a most welcome alternative. As the album title suggests, the music is predominantly gentle in nature, cinematically narrative and elaborate to the last detail. The ambition has been to create a large and united piece in a never before heard sonic world - music that floats in a weightless universe. The result was Gently.
