17 tracks of completely unbound music invented in the spur of the moment by five amazing artists – one of them being Paul Bley, a pioneer of 1950’s free jazz. On this record he joins a new generation of jazz musicians in creating an atypical quintet album. Various formations of solo, duo, trio and quartets make up an extremely varied soundscape. The music is highly demanding as it requires both an innovative spirit and also an extensive degree of communication between the musicians. On some tracks, Benjamin Koppel plays tubax, an instrument made by the Munich instrument maker Eppelesheim, which is a cross over between a baryton saxophone and a tuba – an instrument adding a completely new dimension to the music.
